Path analysis was done in the crop Panicum miliaceum utilizing 14 strains. The grain yield was found to be associated with number of tiller per plant, panicle length, test weight, plant height and number of leaves per plant. The analysis revealed that panicle length, besides plant height had profound direct as well as indirect effects on yield. Number of tillers per plant and test weight also had direct effect on yield but of low magnitude. Number of leaves per plant had negative direct effect on yield. The indirect effect of all the characters via number of leaves per plant were in negative direction. Panicle length, plant height and test weight are considered important for the selection of better plant types in Panicum miliaceum for arid areas.
