Abstract

Ten wheat varieties of both Mexican and Indian origin were evaluated for stability with respect to synchrony traits in six environments. Presence of genotype-environment interactions was revealed. The linear component appeared to account for most of the interactions present. Therefore, mean performance of varieties could be predicted across the environments. Three parameters of stability (⃖x, b, ⃖S2d) were positively associated in case of synchrony of ear emergence and synchrony of height. For these traits synchronous varieties were invariably stable and less responsive to environmental fluctuations. Breeding for synchronous varieties with greater stability has been advocated.
