Abstract

During the year 1977–78 three male sterile plants were observed spontaneously in one of the collections of Indian mustard. The plants bore petaloid or rudimentary anthers with no pollen grains coupled with reduced size of floral parts. The crosses of these plants with number of normal varieties indicated sterility in the F1 hybrids, suggesting thereby the possibility of the presence of cytoplasmic male sterility in this crop.
