Abstract

Leaf area index and light transmission were measured at 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days after planting in 5 Promising brachytic-2 inbreds and their single cross hybrids. There were genotypic differences both for leaf area index and light transmission. Dwarf and tall version did not differ in leaf area index and light transmission. However, genotypes × height version interaction was found to be significant for both the attributes. Leaf area index was maximum in both dwarf and tall versions at 60 days after planting and then decreased in subsequent stages where as light transmission increased from 75 days and reached maximum at 90 days after planting. Increased leaf area index led to decreased light transmission.
