Abstract

Twelve varieties of barley possessing known genes for powdery mildew resistance and ninety genetic stocks were tested against the Simla sample of powdery mildew. The results indicated that varieties ‘Algerian’ (Pm1 a), ‘Black Russian’ (Pm 1 b), ‘Ricardo’ (Pm 1 c), ‘Line 4831’ (Pm 1 g), ‘Goldfoil’ (Pm 2) and ‘Psaknon’ (Pm 5) were resistant to this disease. The Simla sample of powdery mildew appeared to be different in pathogenecity from cultures of North America, England, Ireland, Canada and Japan.
