Genetic divergence, as measured by Mahalanobis's D2 technique, was studied for yield and its component traits in 40 strains of Triticales obtained from different parts of India. The strains were grouped into 9 different clusters. The clustering pattern of the varieties usually did not follow the geographical origin. Role of natural and human selection causing divergence has been discussed. Test weight and spike length were the potent variables which could be used as parameters in selecting genetically diverse parents for hybridization programme.
