Varietal Performance and Genotype × Environment Interaction in Mustard

Abstract

Twenty-five strains of mustard (Brassica juncea L. Czern. & Coss.) were evaluated under nine environments. It was observed that the estimates of genetic parameters were affected by different environments. High significant genotype × environment interaction has been recorded. The highly significant genotype × sowing date and genotype × fertility, the first order interaction, had higher magnitude of variance than the second order interaction (genotype × sowing date × fertility), although it was also highly significant. This indicated that the varieties had differential response when grown in different environments. The strains ‘RLM 198’, ‘RLM 29’, ‘RLM 82’, and ‘RLM 234’, were found to be the most promising for growing under optimum fertility and sowing date.
