Abstract

In rice bean, the inheritance of stem colour in seedling, pigmentation in flower bud and pod colour was studied in crosses between different strains developed from the collections obtained from two different sources. The stem colour in. seedling (Rsrs), pigmentation in flower bud (Psbpsb) were monogenically inherited. Pod colour was controlled by two non allelic interacting genes (Abab; Lplp) resulting in 13 : 3 segregation ratio in F2 generation. Four genes-Rs, Psb, Ab and M (the gene for mosaic spotting of seed coat) were linked and the recombination percentages between them were as follows: 9∙3 between Rs- and Psb; 20∙4 between Rs and Ab; 12∙7 between Rs and M and 8∙8 between M and Ab. From these data the relative position of three genes (Rs, M and Ab) was determined as follows:

This linkage group has been tentatively designated as the Rs linkage group.
