Abstract

By subjecting the malting quality parameters and yield values of twenty-three two-row types of barley and two six-row checks grown under three different locations to D2 analyses, closely related varieties were grouped at each centre. The best varieties for malting quality and yield were identified and the quality parameter responsible for their divergent behaviour at each centre evaluated for facilitating breeding for improved types for yield together with malting quality. It appears that six-row checks were not inferior to two-row types with respect to malting quality.
