Abstract

In a correlation and path coefficient analysis in 90 F2 populations of brin-jal, fruit yield showed positive association with plant height, number of fruits per branch and fruits per plant and fruit girth both at phenotypic and genotypic levels, days to flower showed negative association at phenotypic level and positive association at genotypic level. Path coefficient analysis revealed that fruit girth and number of fruits per branch the major factors contributing to yield and that selection should be focussed primarily on these traits. The fruit shape index indirectly influenced the yield through fruit girth.
