A plant with multiple carpels, with exposed ovules borne at the base of a petal; without staminal column or anthers was observed in G. arboreum L. cotton (A1A1, 2n = 26) variety ‘Joyti’. The flower abnormality appears to be gene controlled. A, genome is considered the likely progenitor of the exposed ovule and multiple carpelloid, pistillate habit in cotton (Gossypium spp.).
