Abstract

Correlation between grain yield, protein, sulphur, methionine and tryptophan seed and other agronomic traits was estimated in 16 chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) varieties. Harvest index and seeds per pod showed negative association with sulphur and methionine contents. High and positive association of sulphur and methionine showed that indexing of methionine could be done with sulphur estimation. Seeds per pod and sulphur content had maximum direct positive and negative direct effects to account for grain protein. The results showed that any level of tryptophan content could be combined with any level of seeds per pod and sulphur and methione contents.
