Abstract

Inheritance of genes controlling brown planthopper resistance was studied in five crosses involving five resistant and 4 susceptible varieties. Resistance was controlled by single pair of recessive genes in the crosses RP 1528, HP 1607 and RP 1606 and a single pair of dominant genes in the RP 1144 cross.

In the cross RP 1579, a ratio of 54R : 10S was obtained indicating the inter action of 3 complementary genes. Purple lining in the coleoptile (in ‘ARC 6650’) was due to 2 dominant complementary genes. Linkage between one of the genes for brown planthopper resistance wich one for coleoptile colour was established with a C.O. value of 3⋅6 per cent.
