Abstract

A narrow bract mutant called ‘frego’ has been reported earlier in G. arboreum cotton by the authors of the present paper. The inheritance of this mutant was worked out in three intervarietal crosses. From the segregation observed in F2 and test crosses its monogenic nature and independent assortment from pollen colour, petal colour and plant body colour has been confirmed. The mutant is also found to be pleiotropic with late maturity and luxuriant plant growth. Its probable origin is discussed. The new mutant bract gene is symbolized as brn.
