Abstract

Inheritance of red purple vs. tan plant (leaf sheath) colour was studied in six intervarietal crosses of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.), ‘LSR 1 × GS 3541’, ‘RCR 408 × CS 3541’, ‘148 × LSR 1’ ‘GS 3541 × IS 84’, ‘IS 3691 × GS 3541 and ‘IS 84 × 148’. Fa segregation showed a 3:1 ratio for red purple; tan colour, indicating operation of single gene in the inheritance of this character in all the six cross combinations. The monogenic recessive tan plant colour was observed.
