Abstract

Heterosis over mid-parent and the best parent for dry matter yield and its components, studied in 45 crosses among ten lines of oats, was high for all the characters except for number of leaves. For dry matter yield heterosis ranged from -17-20 to 146-30% over mid parent and -46-40 to 79–70% over the best parent Appier. Appier x IPC and Appier x Algerian were the best crosses showing high heterosis for dry matter yield, plant height and stem thickness. Sierra x V7 showed high heterosis for leaf size and leaf stem ratio, while Montreena X Algerian showed maximum heterosis for no. of tillers and earliness.
