Abstract

Combining ability analysis of ten diverse cultivars of pigeonpea representing extra early to late group indicated the predominance of additive gene effects for the trait, days to first flower opening. The estimates of gca effects of the individual parental lines indicated a good agreement between the ranking of the lines for such effects and the ranking based on the per se performance of the parents. Cultivars HPA2, Pant A2 and T21 were as such the best parents for earliness. The crosses involving diverse parents like Pant A2 X ICP 6997 and T21 X ICP 7035 which had high sea for earliness may give early maturing and high yielding segregates.
