Seven true breeding selections of rice bean (Phaseolus cakaratus Roxb. synonym: Vigna umbellata) were crossed in diallel combination excluding reciprocals. Combining ability analysis was done. From this analysis it was concluded that the additive variance had major role for number of seeds per plant, 1000 seed weight and seed yield per plant but the dominance component was more important for the number of seeds per pod. Late maturing parent was good general combiner for number of seeds per plant and seed yield per plant. The breeding method suitable for this crop is discussed.
