Abstract

Embryological studieson three biotypes of Pennisetum pedicellatum Trin., which otherwise differ from each other in some morphological attributes and chromosomal status were made. The embryo development was noted to be aposporous and the mode was similar in all the three biotypes. Some nucellar cells developed into four-nucleate sacs without any antipodals. Only one such nucellar sac formed embryo. Endosperm development was autonomous and preceeded embryo differentiation. This occurred even before anthesis and indicated obligate type of apomixis.
