Wheat varieties, ‘UP 310’, ‘Janak’, ‘WH 147’, ‘GLR-1’ and ‘GLR-22’ were rated as slow-rusting to Puccinia recondita tritici in the field during 1976–79 crop seasons, as these varieties allowed lower infection rate as compared to fast-rusting varieties ‘Lal Bahadur’, ‘HI 601’ and ‘Kalyansona’. These slow-rusting varieties showed longer incubation period, fewer uredospores per pustule and early conversion of uredia into telia on flag leaves as compared to fast-rusting ‘Lal Bahadur’ and all the other varieties tested under glasshouse conditions.
