Abstract

Locally grown soyabean variety ‘Kalitur’, has indeterminate spreading growth habit, late muturity, black seed coat and poor yield though well adapted jo agro-climatic conditions of M.P., the region where it is grown- Seeds of ‘Kalitur’ were exposed to gamma-rays and chemical mutagens like diethyl sulphate, ethyleneimine and ethylmethane sulphonate and germination and mutant percentages recorded in M1 ann M2. Observation on mutants for seed coat color were recorded in M3 and lines breeding free for cream colored seed coat selected. Relative performance of seed coat color mutants suggested the possibility of selecting high yielding, early maturing and comparatively less indeterminate types.
