Abstract

A diallel analysis of combining ability involving 10 tetralocular parents of yellow sarson grown over three seasons was done. Both the parents and hybrids showed similar interaction with seasons. The gene action was predominantly non-additive for all the characters and heritability estimates were low. Those parents which showed high gca for height, number of primary and secondary branches, length of main axis and number of siliqua on main axis, invariably showed negative gca for length of siliqua and number of seeds per siliqua. Wide crossing involving, both the bilocular and tetralocular types and subsequent intermating to break the above adverse association is suggested for the improvement of yellow sarson.
