Investigations were undertaken on the genetic nature of resistance in six component lines of ‘Kalyansona’ multilines with undetermined genes for yellow rust resistance. These component lines were crossed to five standard IV-lines, ‘Bon Fermier’ (Yr 3a) ‘Opal’ (Yr 4b), ‘Lee’ (Yr 7). ‘Compair’ (Yr 8) and ‘Nudif TP 250’ (Yr 1 + Yr 6). Their reactions were recorded against three races of yellow rust (20A, 31 and 38A). The component lines were found to possess a number of resistance genes in against the three races. The gene Yr 3a was found to be present in all component lines except ‘ML 322’ The Yr gene present in ‘Opal’ (Yr 4b) was also found among ‘ML 3’, ‘ML 254’, ‘ML 263’, ‘ML 270’ and ‘ML 322’. ‘ML 414’ segregated from the tester line ‘Opal’ at two loci at the seedling stage. ‘Nudif TP 250’ (Yr 1 + Yr 6) genes were indicated to be present in ‘ML 3’, ‘ML 254’, ‘ML 263’ and ‘ML 322’.
