Abstract

The mode of inheritance of lesistance to T. foetida and T. caries was studied in a 3 X 3 diallel set of crosses. The resistant parents involved were Kalyansona and H.B. 501, while the susceptible parent was Girija.

The resistance of Kalyansona and H.B. 501 was found to be governed by one dominant factor pair to T. foetida. Allelism tests show that the dominant gene conferring resistance to the species in the two varieties, may be identical. Against T. caries, the resistance of Kalyansona and HB 501 was found to be conditioned by two dominant complementary genes. Allelism tets show that the two dominant genes conferring resistance to the species in the two varieties, may be identical. It is suggested that Brevor has contributed the genes for resistance to both the varieties under study.
