A cross was made between two unpigmented indica rice varieties. F1 hybrid plants exhibited anthocyanin pigment in leaf sheath, stigma and apiculus. The segregation of pigment in these plant parts in F2 and F3 led to the identification of trigenic complementary gene action. Tentative genotypes of the parents with respect to pigment were presented.
