Chiasma Frequency and Terminalization Studies in Biotypes of Triticum Durum
Abstract
Chiasma frequencies and terminalization in four biotypes of T. durum were studied at late diplotene/early diakinesis and metaphase-I stages. Maximum chiasma frequency at diplotene was noted in B-224 and minimum in B-168. At metaphase-I reverse situation has been found, highest frequency being in B-168 and lowest in B-224, suggesting the process of of terminalization or cancellation of chiasmata to be rapid in B-224. It has also been noticed that the biotypes, B-103 and B-162 having only one SAT-pair, have lost the SAT-knob of another SAT-pair and nucleolar organizing region remain attached to the chromosomes. On the contrary, in Bansi-224, there is only one SAT-pair. These observations are discussed in the light of earlier work.
