Diallel crosses involving ten varieties of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) revealed that among the cultivars tested, SI 1854/1 and T 85 were good general combiners for seed and oil yield per plant. The parental lines with positive OCA effect for number of capsule per plant were good general combiners for seed and oil yield. The parental performance per se was also a good indicator of its GCA effect for number of capsulses per plant. Therefore, parental lines with high capsule number per plant should preferably be used in hybridization programme.
