Abstract

The nature of inheritance of genes governing anthocyanin pigmentation in stigma, junctura. junctura back and lemma-palea was studied in an inter varietal cross involving the parents Suma and Wanar-l. Trigenic ratios of 45: 19 and 27: 37 were observed for pigmentation in characters stigma and junctura respectively whereas digenic ratios of 9: 7 and 3:13 were obtained for pigmentation in junctura back and lemma-palea. The joint segregation studies revealed the existance of pleiotropic gene (s) for developing the purple pigment in different parts.
