Abstract

Seasonal differences in groundnut yields are more pronounced than varietal differences. The magnitude of the variety × season interaction is high, the Virginia forms being less interactive than Spanish types. Individual varieties which are stable across seasons are identifiable. There is a case for a shift to Virginia forms during rabi. Hybridization among the three sub species did not result in spectacular yield improvements. There is further scope for selection and modified breeding procedures might lead to greater selection gains.
