Abstract

The karyotype of West Tropical African Albuca nigritana is described and compared with that Urginia altissima. The karyotype of A. nigritana consists of 10 pairs of acrocentric chromosomes and does not differ widely from Urginia in chromosome numbes and the chromosome morphology. However, there is assymetry in the karyology of both species of the two genera, as revealed by total SA/LA ratio.
