Abstract

A line × tester analysis of fourteen sunflower inbreds (nine as female and five as male parents) indicated that oil yield and its components are governed predominantly by non additive gene action. The inbreds, EC 68415, EC 68414 and EC 68413, were found to be good general combiners. The crosses, EC 68415 × IS 353 and IS 358 × EC 97919, showed highest s.c.a. effect and heterosis respectively. Most heterotic crosses involved parents with low g.c.a. × low g.c.a. or high g.c.a. × low g.c.a. effects.
