Chiasma frequency was determined in three types of Vicia faba L. reprcsentd by different varieties and mutants (i.e., K.T. R. 40, G3, Ro. Ko., D.M. 110, H.P.). The different varieties and mutants exhibited differences in mean chiasma frequency per cell for “M” and “S” chromosomes separately. The introduced variety K.T. has lower mean chiasma frequency for “M” and “S” chromosomes than the well-adapted Egyptian varieties. The mutants (D.M. 110) and (H.P.) showed lower chiasma frequency per cell for “M” and “S” chromosomes than the mother variety (R. 40) as well as all other varieties. There were significant differences in chiasma frequencies when the variety and mutant either for “M” or “S” chromosome are compared with each other. The possible reasons for the differences in mean chiasma frequencies in the different varieties and mutants are discussed.
