Abstract

Effect of gamma radiation on proteolytic activity in chickpea (Cicer arietinum) seedlings during early stages of germination was studied with three varieties. The soluble protein content of the cotyledons decreased with a simultaneous increase in the proteolytic activity with the growth of the seedling. in the embryo-axis, the enzyme activity decreased with simultaneous increase in the total protein. Radiation reduced the protein content as well as the enzyme activity in cotyledons and embryo-axis.
