Abstract

Genetic divergence as measured by Mahalanobis's D2 statistic was assessed among 62 varieties of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) under four agronomical environments. All the varieties were grouped into 12 clusters in each environment, except the environment II having 10 clusters. The clustering pattern on the basis of D2 was not related to the geographic origin of the strains. The patterns under varying environments were also different.
