Abstract

Heterosis and inbreeding depression were studied in the F 1′s and F 2′s of five crosses involving Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek cultivars; L80. Hyb4-3, G65, T44 and LM 293 (as female) and V. radiata var sublobata (as male) and two varietal crosses, ML 33 × L80and G65 × LM 293. The wide crosses were statistically inferior to standard check for seeds per pod, 100 seed weight and yield per plant where as varietal crosses were statistically superior to the check for these traits except for seed size in ML33 × L80 which did not show superiority. Significant inbreeding depression was observed for yield per plant and seeds per pod in all the wide and varietal crosses, except for yield per plant in ML33 × L80.
