Abstract

Inheritance of gum content (per cent) was studied under four environments through combining ability analysis of a 6 × 6 diallel set of clusterbean. Both additive and non-additive genetic variances were important in the expression of this attribute. Parents FS 277 and HG 182 had high gum content and were good general combiners. Crosses FS 277 × HG 182, DPS × HG 182, HG 182 × AG 111, FS 277 × DPS and FS 277 × KVS II were identified to be the best cross combinations. The use of these varieties and hybrids in future breeding programmes has been suggested.
