Abstract

Eleven varieties were studied for their coleoptile lengths at 20°C in a controlled cabinet. The shortest coleoptile (3.53 cm) was possessed by Hira Dwraf, shortest among the entries studied. The longer coleoptile was possessed by the tall varieties. The coleoptile length of T. compactum was larger than that of Norin dwarfs and similar to that of talls entries except N.P. 846. The induced semidwarf mutant CM 112 did not show appreciable difference in its coleoptile length from its parent C. 306 whereas significant reduction of coleoptile length was noticed in another inside Hira Dwarf, an T. compactum induced mutant of Hira. T. compactum and CM112 short stature and long coleoptile. T.sphaerococcum also possessed the coleoptile length similar to that of Sonalika.
