Abstract

Heterobeltiosis for seed yield and oil per cent was estimated in 49 hybrids derived by crossing 7 cytoplasmic male sterile and 7 restorer lines of sunflower. Forty six hybrids for seed yield and 41 hybrids for oil per cent exhibited heterobeltiosis. in 8 hybrids heterobeltiosis for seed yield exceeded 100 per cent while 10 hybrids recorded oil content exceeding 10 percent, over their respective better parents. 2A among the ovule parents and 9–12R among the male parents, produced good hybrids both for seed yield and oil per cent. 2Ax3-31R and 2Ax4-12R were found to be the best combinations for seed yield and oil per cent, respectively.
