Status of National Resources of Cultivated Groundnuts

A collection of groundnuts (Arachis hypogaea L.) numbering 4030 were evaluated to study the extent of variation within and between each varietal collection. Nine morphological and 10 quantitative characters were scored. There was a wide variation in majority of the morphological traits. Similarly, quantitative traits also showed wide range of variation, thus, offering an opportunity for upgrading yield and associated traits through hybridization. Studies point out countries from where additional germplasm could possibly be augmented.
