Abstract

In order to compare macro and micro environments approach of stability analysis, 20 genotypes of rice were evaluated for some quality attributes in 9 macro and 6 micro environments. The analysis of variance gave a more or less similar picture of genotypes × environments interaction under both the approaches. Rank correlation based on average performance revealed similarity between the two approaches. However, no association was observed between the two approaches for nonlinear component of genotypes × environments interaction. From responsiveness point of view, the efficiency of extending results of micro environment to diverse locations depended upon the character, being effective for amylose percentage and gelatinization temperature and ineffective for crude protein percentage. in general, results obtained at micro environments did not hold true for the stability of performance over diverse locations.
