Abstract

A survey of genetic markers from healthy blood donors in i) urban, ii) industrial, and iii) rural areas of West Bengal, India, indicates a significant relationship between the degree of industrialisation and frequency of liporotein variants. This association is not apparent in the distribution of haptoglobin, transferrin and acid phosphatase genotypes, ABO blood groups as well as in the total protein patterns.
