Abstract

The present study on the nature of gene action controlling yield, seed water absorption capacity and protein content in pea (Pisum sativum L.) in two crosses (T163 × EC33866 and T163 × 485) shows epistatic component for seed water absorption capacity and protein content. Greater contribution of i type epistasis than j and i types has been observed for protein content in both the crosses and for grain yield in cross T163 × EC 33866. However, j and i type epistasis was observed for seed water absorption capacity in both the crosses. in the presence of i type epistasis, the additive component was more important for grain yield in cross T1 63 × EC 33866 and for protein content in both crosses, while dominant component was present for seed water absorption capacity only in cross T163 × EC 33866.
