Abstract

Six wheat cultivars were inoculated with six cultures of leaf rust (P. recondita) in the greenhouse at adult plant stage to study host—pathogen interaction. The number of infection points and the quantity of spores were determined. The cultivars varied for infection points with each culture and quantity of spores produced per cm2 of leaf area with some cultures. Differential interaction between cultivars and rust cultures for the number of susceptible pustules and the quantity of spores produced by such pustules were observed, suggesting that the slow rusting resistance could become ineffective in due course of time.
