Abstract

Thirty six long-duration genotypes entered into 10 and 8 clusters in D2 and metroglyph methods of analysis, respectively. Days to 50% heading and 100-grain weight were the main contributors to total divergence. in metroglyph analysis, the variables to be plotted on X and Y ordinates in scatter diagram for classifying genotypes should be chosen judiciously. Ihe comparative study of D2 and metroglyph analyses indicated that the latter method would be suitable for preliminary grouping before taking up D2 analysis. Some of the minor deviations observed between the two methods regarding the number of clusters formed, number of genotypes included in each cluster and superimposition of genotypes within the cluster pointout the refinement of D2 technique in classifying germplasm collections.
