Harvest Index as a Criterion For Selection in Wheat

Selection for harvest index was exercised on single plant basis in f2 and F3 generations of 36 intervarietal crosses of wheat representing a wide spectrum of variability for harvest index and associated characters. This study clearly suggests the usefulness of harest index as a selecrion criterion over direct selection on grain yield.
