Abstract

Interspecific hybridization was used to diversify the genetic base of the Indian durum wheats for various yield contributing traits. Significant improvement has been achieved for grain characters in the durum derivatives of these interspecific hybrids. T. timopheevi and T. carthlicum contribute significantly in improving grain characters like size, hardness, lustre, non-mottling nature and uniformity; while T. dicoccum and T. carthlicum simultaneously improve grain weight and grain protein.
