Abstract

Forty-nine experimental hybrids of maize (Zea mays L.) comprising 36 double crosses, 1 three-way cross, and 12 double-top crosses were evaluated in six environments during kharif 1982. The hybrid performance recorded at these environments was correlated with predicted performance based on two environments of kharif 1981. With increase in the number of test environments the association between predicted and actual performance improved. This was reflected both in the magnitude of correlation coefficients of the characters showing significant correlations and in the number of hybrids snowing no significant differences between actual and predicted performance with respect to grain yield.
