Abstract

Seven parent diallel analysis in rice was conducted to study combining ability in respect of yield and some physiological traits. Variance due to both gca and sca was highly significantfor all the traits indicating the importance of both additive and nonadditive gene effects. The variance due to reciprocals was highly significant for all the traits under study revealing the involvement of cytoplasmic genes in inheritance of these traits. The cvs. Halubbalu and Gowrisanna were good general combiners for grain yield, photosynthetic rate, total dry matter and net assimilation rate.
