Abstract

Reciprocal hybrids between T. araraticum and T. monococcllm were produced. Morphologically, F1 hybrids were intermediate between the parent species and were completely pollen sterile. At the first meiotic division, T. araraticum - T. monococum hybrids showed a mean chromosome pairing of 4.95 I + 4.45 II + 1.95 III + 0.35 IV per cell, whereas mean chromosome associations for T. monococcum - T. araraticum hybrids were 5.08 I + 5.8 II + 1.08 III + 0.42 IV per cell. T. monococcum cytoplasm was relatively more conducive for bivalent formation than that of T. araraticum.
