Abstract

A line x tester analysis involving 29 promising female and seven male parents were carried out for 10 quantitative traits in Indian mustard. Among the parents, SKM 93–28, VSL-5, YSRL-10, STRAIN-26, AD-2041, DBS-10 and KBJ-3 were found to be significantly superior general combiners for seed yield and yield components. The cross YSRL-10 x Pusa Bold, DB5–10 x Pusa Bold showed high heterosis for seed yield and some of the yield contributing traits. For most the major characters including seed yield both additive and non-additive gene action were of prime importance.
